Puppeteers of America, a national nonprofit organization founded in 1937, provides information, encourages performances, and builds a community of people who love puppet theatre.
Share the enchantment of puppetry with professional puppeteers, puppet builders, teachers, librarians, therapists, youth leaders, hobbyists and audience members who are enthusiastic about puppetry.
About the PoA Southeast Region and the 2010 Festival
The PoA Southeast (SE) region is comprised of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Puerto Rico. The core activity of all PoA regions is to promote puppetry through performances, workshops, and festivals. Every other year, a location is selected for the SE festival where puppeteers from our region and beyond gather, share puppetry, and provide fresh perspectives of the art to the local community.
The Port City Puppet Festival is coming to the eastern edge of our region in Wilmington, North Carolina- where a PoA festival has never been held before. Through the festival involvement of community organizations and individuals in Wilmington, we hope to inspire understanding, enjoyment, and appreciation for the ancient, ever-evolving art of puppetry!
